Which Version of You Takes Over When Life Gets Busy?

If you’re like many of the women I work with, there's a version of you who plans well. She sets clear goals, organizes her week, and genuinely wants to take better care of her health. When life feels calm, she shows up. She prepares her meals, makes time to move, and feels proud of herself for following through.
But if you’re also like many women, there's another version of you who shows up when life gets busy.
When deadlines stack up, your calendar fills quickly, and family responsibilities increase, something shifts. You may still care just as much about your goals, but your energy feels different. Decisions feel heavier. By the end of the day, you may reach for whatever feels easy and familiar. That version of you is not lazy or unmotivated; she’s stretched thin.
This is where many women feel confused. They know what to do, they’ve done it before. Yet when pressure rises, they don’t act like the version of themselves they planned to be.
Think about the difference between a quiet Sunday morning and a busy Wednesday evening. On Sunday, you may feel clear and intentional. On Wednesday, you may feel rushed and drained. Your goal hasn't changed, but your internal state has. And that internal state influences your choices far more than most people realize.
Consistency is not built on who you are when life is calm. It’s built on who shows up when life feels full.
If your habits only work on good days, they won’t hold when real life tests them. That doesn’t mean you’re failing. It may simply mean that the version of you who shows up under pressure has not been supported yet. If nothing has shifted internally, then when stress appears, you will naturally fall back on familiar patterns.
Once you begin to notice which version of you takes over when life gets busy, you stop being surprised by it. Awareness creates space. And in that space, you have the opportunity to respond differently.
